I think we really are going to Turkey this Spring. We've been sort of scheming and dreaming for some time, with a wouldn't-it-be-nice kind of attitude. Now that we've got a book it feels official.

daily grind

It's my first week back to classes after almost 3 whole weeks of vacation from teaching. While I never get tired of being on holiday, it's always a pleasure to work with my students again and remember how cool my job is.

New Year, New Books

I finally finished As I Lay Dying. It was my second through, but it was no easier than the first. It's taken me months as I can only digest short doses. And once the buzzards appeared,  the going was even slower.

Here's one of the passages I read and reread:


"He had a word too. Love, he called it. But I had been used to words for a long time. I knew that that word was like the others: just a shape to fill a lack; that when the right time came, you wouldn't need a word for that anymore than for pride or fear."


So now it's time for a new book to carry me away. Any suggestions? What have you read lately?
