sunny and 70˚

Greetings from sunny Southern California. Oooh I do so love Autumn in Ventura. It has been so hot and bright here lately. It feels like summer.

Happy weekend folks. Hope you are having a bright Saturday and that there's a sunny Sunday in your near future.

{how adorable are my little God brothers in the photo above? I love those guys.}

while it's still your birthday month

Ian's Birthday 2010
Here are some photos from Mr. C's birthday celebrations earlier this month.

We've been sort of keeping the party going for most of October. In fact, he just received another present yesterday. Lucky duck.

Topsy Turvy Design

If I had the means, and the wherewithal, I would wear a Topsy Turvy hat for Halloween.

I have been wanting one of these lovelies for some time now. And I think if I'm ever lucky enough to own one, I will wear it for any and all occasions, not just costume balls.

Happy weekend lovelies! I hope you get a chance to play dress up. Will you be donning a costume this Halloween? Whatever will you wear?

cranberries, cornbread, etc.

I've been experimenting with cranberries and cornbread as of late.

cornbread
Monday I made buttermilk cornbread to go with our vegetarian chili...

... and I threw a few cranberries into this tiny pie plate just for fun.

cornbread stuffing
Tonight, I used our leftovers to make a cranberry cornbread dressing. I think it will be extra tasty with our miniature roasted chicken. Yum and yumm.

faded flowers

Are there are hollyhocks left where you are?

There are a few lonely blossom still clinging onto their stocks here in Ventura.

Blushing Pear Pie

raspberry pear filling 3 by Mia
What makes the pears in this pie blush? It must be the raspberries. These two fruits have fallen in love with one another beneath a lattice crust.

I was very nervous about weaving the doughy pastry strips, but Ian had full confidence in me. He thinks this might be his new favorite.

Oh, and did I mention I've signed up for my very first pie contest? Being a novice, I'm sure to be outmatched. But I am excited anyway. I'll be asking for your input on which of my pies look like contest winners. Too bad I can't have you all be taste testers too.
