strawberries & rhubarb
Rhubard is not something I often find at our farmers' markets. So when I do see it, I buy as much as I can and make pie for my sweetheart. Rhubarb is his favorite.
This one got very juicy will all the delicious Albion strawberries I used. Whenever I bake a fruit pie I place a foil lined baking sheet on the rack below it in the oven to catch all the fruity runoff.
Sadly, I forgot the foil this time and those pink puddles landed on the bottom of our Hotpoint.

There's always money in the banana stand.
Came across this bizarre and wonderful looking show at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles—just as I was feeling inspired to see some bizarre and wonderful art. I might have to put this show on the list.
What are your weekend plans? Anything wonderful in the works?

hydrangeas
Hydrangeas, among other things, are blooming in our garden right now. I love this time of year.
What's blooming in your yard?

epic beach days
We've been going to the beach practically every one of these last sunny days.
Usually it's just Mr. C and I.
But the best of all the seaside adventures was the one we spent with our favorite Bostonians.
I wish they spent every beach day with us.

Yellow Nectarine Pie
This first summer pie was long overdue.
Yellow nectarines are one of my favorite pie fruits. The peels bake up all soft and tasty and turn the filling the loveliest shade of pink.
I add just a touch of almond extract to go with the almond crumb top. Then wait for those juices to bubble thickly.

Moonrise Kingdom
Perfectly perfect movie. I saw it last Tuesday and I'd watch it again right now.

Last Day of School
I spotted this tiny tree climber last night at graduation. This is what Oak Grove kidlets look like at high school commencement — no stuffy miniature suits or bored fidgety faces.
And this is what our keynote speeches look like, all glowing green leaves and in-your-face June sunshine.
By tomorrow the campus will be too quiet.

They baked a cake!
Yesterday was our last day of studio art class for the year. It's bittersweet, though maybe a little on the sweeter side this time because of a most amazing cake made by two of our students. A delicious ending.

Hwy 1
Mr. C and I took a drive down the coast this sunny Saturday. Oooh I just love a spring day on Highway 1. Convertible cars and festival buses at the camp spots. Glorious.
Did you have any adventures this weekend?

Staring at the Sun
We didn't actually stare. But we did catch a glimpse of today's solar eclipse. The afternoon light was so strange. Like a dream.

Super Moon. Super Birthday.
Did you see the Super Moon last Saturday? It rose over the hills as Mr. C and I drove the old beach highway home. Giant and awesome, we just had to get a closer look. So we took the telescope out on the front porch and gazed at it's greatness.
It was the night before my birthday. Extra super.

Signs of Spring
I love this time of year... bees in the lavender and birds by the roses. We even found this little yellow moth on our mud room window.
What's your favorite thing about Spring?

May Day
Did you ever participate in a May Day pageant? I have little kid memories of sunny spring days, dancing on asphalt around a make shift May pole, wrapping it with rainbowy ribbons. I think there were probably flowers in my hair. Seems so old timey now. I don't ever see that kind of thing anymore.
Whether you're striking or celebrating, I hope there are flowers in your hair. Happy May Day.

Day at the Museum
Mr C and I went to MOCA yesterday for the exhibit Transmission LA: AV CLUB.
We double dated with these fabulous folks and took lots and lots of photos of this eye candy art show.
I highly recommend a trip to the museum to see this. The show is free Thursday - Saturday and there's outdoor entertainment, cocktails and food trucks for a full on get-ready-for-summer art party.

April Showers
I'm loving this Spring weather we've been having. It's wild and unpredictable—one minute hot with sunshine and the next minute dark with clouds and windy rain. And you know what they say about April showers...

Home is Where the Garden Is
I'm missing Istanbul like crazy. But my antique bungalow home and my little garden oasis make me happy. The blossoms and birds are lovely this time of year.

On Holiday
We're off to Istanbul! It's a place I've never been before and I am so so excited. Will you be going anywhere for Spring break? Where would you go if you could go anyplace?
I had all these aspirations of scheduling posts and making sure there was something wonderful here for you to see all the days that I am gone. Alas, it just didn't happen. And without a laptop, it's unlikely that I'll be blogging much while on holiday. I will most certainly be posting photos on Instagram though. My handle is moody_is_my_cowgirl_name. Come and find me and I'll take you traveling through Turkey!

goodbye gray days
The Weather Channel kept promising a giant rain storm.
And there were some showers on St. Paddy's Day. But the gray is all but gone now. Which is a little sad, because Ventura really does look lovely in the gloom.
Not that I'm complaining. I love sunshine too.

green is the thing
I've been loving chartreuse flowers lately. I've even planted some in my front garden. Here are some perfectly green mums in honor of St. Patrick's Day. I picked them just for you.

home body
Life has been so busy lately that some of the things I love have been sorely neglected. This weekend will be the first in a long time that there's some breathing room and I'm excited to get back to fix in' up our bungalow. My goals are set for making our new Little City Designs office (pictured above) more cozy and inspiring.
What does your weekend have in store?

tea time
It seems to be a tradition to have high tea with my mom sometime during the winter.
Oten we go with a group of ladies and sometimes it's just us two. There are almost always Kir Royals involved.
This year, for the first time ever, we went with our sweet heats. The four of us dressed up and lifted our pinkies while we sipped Earl Grey at the Biltmore in Montecito.
The Biltmore is so fancy that's it's definitely just for special occasions. But oh boy do they make tastey treats. This year they added macaroons to menu.
That's my dad asleep behind the strawberries. He's more of a coffee guy.
